There’s an old tree at the back of my property
Right on the line of the legal boundary
Half belongs to the neighbor half belongs to me
Neither of us really wanted to cut it down anyway

It didn’t make nuts and it didn’t make fruits
It just collected light and sent it down to the roots
When you cut them with a shovel they leak a sticky juice
From the place that you cut grows a pernicious root

Cleaning up the stuff outside the garage
Taking away the stuff leaning against the fence
Growing under the garden and the sidewalk cement
I finally decided I’d had about enough

I was thinking about when I get old
And I can’t bend over cause my back’s broke
I can’t pull the string to start the lawnmower
They take me away to the old people’s home

I went to the rental and I rented some stuff
A tree branch chipper and a tree-cutting truck
You should have seen how long it took me to clear up the brush
I had the tree down in an hour almost choked on sawdust

I chipped the branches I was covered in cuts
I called the rental agency when the tree chipper busted
They sent out a mechanic for a diagnostic
He cleaned the carburetor said the throttle was stuck

The sting of the bee and the bite of the bug
The cuts fill up with the infection’s pus
Stay inside in the summer I can’t go to work
It’s the future and it’s hard to get antibiotics
